GET INVOLVED:

 WE STRIVE TO BUILD AND

 STRENGTHEN OUR COMMUNITY

 THROUGH SERVICE.

OUR PROGRAMS
Walden Place Retirement Community

In our weekly visits with our friends in one of Iowa City’s assisted living homes, we play board games, make crafts, eat pie, and socialize! Though at first the age gap may seem daunting, every Sunday from 4-5 pm is sure to bring lots of smiles to both SFS members and residents of Walden Place. Up to five people can join in on the fun each week!

Mann Elementary Pen Pals

Many of our members have had the opportunity to be pen pals with children in a sixth grade class at a local elementary school. In this ongoing program, members exchange letters with their buddies about once a week and meet their pen pals in person twice per semester. Both the kids and members enjoy getting to know one another through writing letters and spending a few days eating lunch and having recess together!

Habitat for Humanity Restore

Iowa City’s Habitat for Humanity is always looking for volunteers to work at its local Restore, which takes construction supply donations to sell at affordable prices to families in need of home renovations. SFS members join together every other Saturday to offer whatever help is needed in terms of unloading, sorting, or stocking donations that the Restore receives. Volunteer spots at the Restore are limited to three per shift and times that members go on Saturdays vary based on availabilities.

Finals Stress Relief Packages

Finals Week is quite a hectic time to be a Hawkeye. That is why every semester our members get together to make care packages for their fellow students hard at work studying for exams. Once assembled, members gather at the Main Libary to distribute their stress relief packages to those in need.
